Dominique Penabad, 21, of Lodi, and a member of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity at the college, was with a sewing and knitting group creating hats and gloves for the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and protest pins for the Women’s March.
“It’s a time for college students to come together and do service,” she said. “It’s nice to see college kids giving back.”
MLK Day of Service: 'Amazing Things Are Happening Here Today'
January 01, 2020
GALLOWAY, N.J. -
Classes may not start for the spring semester until Tuesday, January 16th, but Stockton University held its 14th annual MLK Day of Service on Monday.
“MLK Day is really to be recognized as a national day of service," said Daniel Fidalgo Tome, director of Service Learning for Stockton University. "It’s really important for us to remember that the Doctor really talked about the importance of service, and his speeches and his works.”
About 1,000 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
